April 11 2008 COOLSITES Newsletter #160 by Mark Donaldson

Attention Subscribers and readers. Please read this.

Yea! Most subscribers got this week's newsletter. I split the subscriber list among my 5 Gmail accounts so that I was sending out less than 200 each. I still haven't found a way to pemanently solve this problem so here is what I am going to do. Subscibers have received a private link to download the newsletter in the text ( .txt ), html (.html ) and the MS Word Doc ( .doc ) format in a zip file. I will upload the zip files to my archive site right after I send out the newsletter on Friday morning. If a subscriber doesn't receive the newsletter, by 8am EDT, they can quickly download it, unzip it and peruse it offline. You can also read it online from there.

If you are a subsciber and didn't receive the notice you can email me for the private link. These zip files are less than 40K which is smaller than the 100K to 130K newsletter email.

Clif Notes Newsletter, Feb 2007 http://freewarewiki.com/ClifNotes

"The COOLSITES Newsletter - find the coolest links here. This fella named Mark Donaldson has been sending out his lists of cool sites since 2003. I'd never heard of him before last week. One day I was Googling myself to see who was posting links to my newsletter, and I found his website. I guess he's mentioned my newsletter at least 3 times. I like the COOLSITES website too, but I think it could use some reformatting to make it a bit easier to read. What I really like is the content there. Mark must really read a lot of stuff on the web and he takes the best links then tells you about them." http://freewarewiki.com/CoolSitesNewsletter

The World Browser

My Juno frontend browser uses IE's core so for a while I was using Opera. Then I used Firefox because I could only use my COOLSITES Toolbar with Firefox on a 98SE computer. Now I am using a new browser called The World Browser. It uses the IE core but has additional safeguards.

"TheWorld Browser is a tiny, fast, yet free, secure and powerful web browser. It features a tabbed interface with multi-threaded frame browser.

TheWorld Browser uses the Microsoft Internet Explorer engine. We currently support Windows 98/me/2000/xp/Vista.

TheWorld Browser 2.0 has a new, powerful multi-threaded window frame, which prevents the browser from freezing. Even if one webpage is unresponsive, the rest will not be affected. In developing TheWorld Browser 2.0, we have rewritten and rebuilt all the codes and modules from version 1.x. The new framework is built to provide you with richer internet browsing experience.

Multi-threaded frame. TheWorld Browser version 2.0 is among the first multi-threaded frame browser in the world (the first is Internet Explorer 7.0), the multi-threaded window frame can prevent the web pages from freezing.

Intelligent Ad blocking + Blacklist filter. TheWorld can block popups and float ads automatically. You can also use a blacklist to filter ads. The blacklist filter works from lower level of HTTP protocol, with regular expression so that you can filter out anything you want.

Web page mute. TheWorld is the first browser that can disable a web page's sound with one click.

Powerful Tools. Built in tools like: Flash filter, unlock page script limited, zoom, Proxy quick switching, Auto complete, Quick media saver, Privacy guard, Mouse gestures, Custom hotkeys and Drag & drop support, make TheWorld one of the most powerful browsers around.

Safer. TheWorld Browser has built-in safe guards that will protect you while surfing.

Built-in Download Manager. Which consists of multi-thread download, resumable download, with intuitive download management.

Skins and plugins. TheWorld Browser supports skins and plugins, we have hundreds of skins and plugins to customize the way you browse. TheWorld has native support for Internet Explorer's plugins as well."

I especially like the built in download manager. I suggested they change it's name to World Wide Browser ( WWB ) but they said they like it's present name. Mark.

And I thought I was an omnivore

From: The Worthless Word For The Day http://home.comcast.net/~wwftd

"The worthless word for the day is: infovore [info- + L. vorus, devouring] /IN fo vore/ (introduced as a scientific term by neuroscientists Irving Biederman and Edward Vessel, after carnivore, omnivore, etc.) a person who indulges in and desires information gathering and interpretation "I'm an infovore. I consume and excrete interesting factoids for a living." - Cory Doctorow, A Place So Foreign (2003) "Why are you reading this article when you could be watching paint dry instead? It's all because of our innate hunger for information. Humans, it turns out, are infovores." - New Scientist, 22 July 2006 the opposite of infovore is ignotarian, a person who avoids or limits the acquisition of (new) information."

I'm glad I'm not an ignotarian. Mark.
