Hi,

I hope this is the right forum even though I am looking for some advice and not help for a hardware problem.

Here goes, I'm looking into buying a TFT screen, I have a regular monitor now which works fine, I just want some more room on my desk Smile Anyway, I don't have a lot of cash to spend on it, but I saw the Philips 170S5FB, 17" is on sale at a store near me at a resonible price, but I'm not familiar with TFT speecs, so I would like some advice before buying it.

Basically, is it any good? What I am most worried about is seeing "trails" when watching a movie clip with a lot of action or playing games. I also use Photoshop a bit. The specs for it can be seen here.

Any advice is appreciated.

a response time spec. of 25ms or less is what you would be looking for, your monitor is 16ms, which is very good.

Osprey is right. That 16 ms response time is excellent. It shouldn't show any blurring or ghosting at all.

Hello,

The monitor's specs sound fine.

Is there any chance the local store which is selling the monitor has one on the floor out on display you can watch a short video game demo or DVD on? I would think that would be the easiest way to determine if it will meet your needs.

Regards,

Good question, and also what is the policy on stuck or dead pixels? Often less than 5 bad pixels is considered acceptable, although that could be noticeable.

Thanks for all the replys.

I don't know Philips guarantee, I can't find it on their website, but I guess it's a chance I have to take, hoping for no dead pixels. Everybody has to take that chance, right? :)

How often do dead pixels happen anyway? 1 out of 5?
