| Acronis is giving away an older version (V7) of its True Image program. Now V7 may not have the fancy features of the latest version but it's still a great product. It can't backup to DVD and it requires 2 CD drives for cloning, but it's a totally usable product. The only small downside is you have to register to get a Key; a tiny price to pay to get a top product. Once registered you need to login to download the software. The download link is under "My Products" on the "My Account" page. Here's the link.

Thanks for the heads-up, I was looking for a good product, and you can't beat FREE as a price!

Re: increase in junk mail. I got the freebie quite some time ago. If I did get something later, I think I may have just tripped on over to the un-subscribe link and that took care of it. I think you'll be ok. |

Well, mommabear, I must have clicked the no junk mail option in the beginning, for I have not noticed any increase in junk mail! (nice avatar by the way!)
I have not been able to use the product, since my pc hardware took a dump on me, but I am looking forward to using this software to image both my HD's!
Cheers! |

I wasn't ignoring you, pc7wizard. I've been tied up working on my daughter's computer and just saw your comment directed at me. Sorry about your hardware problems.
I like my avatar too. I don't remember how I found the picture, but it is soooo this grandma first thing in the morning. I just couldn't resist it.
Hope you get all back together real soon. |

| Another thing to consider..... if you register and use this free-gradis version of the software and you like how it works... And, somewhere down the line you decide you would like the latest version. I notice that they will allow you to upgrade for 29.99, and save abt 20 bucks. |

Good tip!
Another one from me - if you wanna save a couple more $$ you can upgrade from this page - it offer 20% discount on the upgrade, so it's only like $24 |

I wasn't worried about you ignoring me, you all have a life outside of the Forum! I check the comments here at work, they can be really helpful on the job!
I hate mornings, that's why I like your avatar so much...without a pot of coffee in me I am worthless in the morning...but come 6 pm and I'm still going with a full head of steam...do my best work after the sun goes down...must be a bit of Vampire in me...
lifteri, you are right on, I like free, and discounts on the latest version are good too! As a software engineer/designer/tester, I like being supported by people purchasing the latest product!
Cheers! |

| The latest version of Acronis True Image is version 10 and is only $29.99 from Acronis. It seems like this would be a better deal than $23.99 for an older version. |

Older thread, sorry to jump in....
The link to free V7 expired. Any new links to previous versions?
V10 seems to be $49.99 not $29.99.
And lastly, is this the backup s/w most everyone recommends. Have you ever had a crash personally, and you have recovered from it using this sw?
How well does it work if your pc is toast and you have to restore on a different hardware (as it is very hard to replicate the hw setting of an older pc..).
Thanks,
steve |

Hello,
I have Acronis True Image 8.0 and have used it successfully to copy disk volumes when upgrading hard disk drives several times and it worked fine in all cases, however, that was for the purpose of copying one hard disk drive to another, not for performing backups.
For backup purposes, I have been using Roxio's BackUp My PC under Microsoft Windows XP to back my data volumes up to tape and DVD-RAM, but it does not work under Windows Vista. I am not sure if that is an issue for you.
NovaStor's NovaBack (which I believe is also sold by StompSoft as PC-Backup) do claim support for Windows Vista, but I have not had a chance to verify this myself.
Regards,

Why would you need 2 CDs? One not large enough to take the image? Is that normal practice when cloning? |

Hey, great discussion on pricing and I see the mention of other companies that make backup software, but does anyone know about this company, FarStone? I got an email offer from a co-worker who was existing customer and apparently they have something called Driveclone and it does the same stuff. The email offer told her to download the latest version which is #3 and the coupon code they gave her (FARS30) was discount for 30% off. So if i did the math right, the price was $27.99.
The page to read about it and buy is here: http://www.farstone.com/software/driveclone.htm
I'll let you know if this works and vise versa, if u please |

Hello,
Farstone has been around for over a decade. Some of their early products were hardware diagnostics. I have not used any of their recent programs, but their diagnostic software did work properly.
