PC Pro Magazine and Acronis have teamed up to offer version 8 "free".
All you need to do is to Register at Acronis, have them send you a product password to complete your registration.
After completing the registration process, they'll send the product key to unlock Acronis True Image 8 Personal.

Well, that's the theory. I've been getting jerked around by these "people" either by idiocy or self-inflicted ma$ochi$m of thinking "Yes, Bob, there really is a Free <whatever>" . .. yeah, right !
If any person knows WHERE (emphASis mine) I can download the software
Acronis True Image 8 Personal (Version , I would gladly appreciate it. On the Acronis site are offers to upgrade to Version 11; on various shareware download sites I could only find offers to upgrade to Version 9.
"Free" seems to be more elusive . .
So, being somewhat smart, I dropped a note using their contact list / page !
Whupss wrong form . .
Used web page support form . . . too much information required that I don't have since I don't have the copy yet !! Arghhhhhhh
Note to the truly innocent: I am feeling a bit frustrated, as if I have just had my personal information ripped off and nothing to show for it!!
So, if I come across as a tad bit caustically sarcastic, it is because I am !!
Bob
Normally warm, fuzzy and open minded . . . jeeez those cross drafts are chilly today ! <smile> |

| It is a little complicated, but it can be done. Once you've registered at the Acronis website, they will send you a confirmation email asking if you really want a serial number. Click on the link embedded in the email. Then Acronis will send you another email with the serial number. Then, you need to go back into the Acronis website. Click on the "My Account" and enter your registration name and password. Once you're logged in to "My Account", click on the "Registered Products" link. It should open up and show Acronis True Image 8.0 registered that you can then download. Good luck!

Well, I did all that and I still don't have the program - even went to their live chat - still don't have the program
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Thank You!
But, I was at this page before soon after I registered, and am 90% the link was not there.
Apparently, the Free version has a specific unlock code keyed to the users account, and it takes a couple of days to get that version keyed and into your account.
I registered on the 21st and showed up today. Or so that seems my experience. YMMV
Thanks for the clarification!

Hee Hee,
That's a very old version. Why anyone would want that is beyond me.
I much prefer Ghost 2003 anyway.
It will backup and restore XP or Vista, even on an NTFS drive.
Toshiba uses it for their factory restore DVD's.
Good Luck,

I finally was able to get my program. Just had to wait a couple days like Bob said.
And why would anyone want this? Because it's free and I can't afford the new programs!

Hello,
Acronis True Image 8 was released in 2004.
Just because something is old does not mean it is any less useful--it probably works well on all but the newest hardware.

Hello,
I just went through the steps, and the DL link showed up on my Registered Products page right away. Dumb luck? Probably not. I don't know why the other posters had to wait 2 days - I was prepared to do the same. So hopefully not everyone will have to play the waiting game.
Good Luck! |

Well I guess I jumped the gun claiming I didn't have to wait
Version 8 was listed as a registered product. I assumed the link was for DLing the file, but being a dope I didn't check it before prematurely claiming my success.
So then I click the link and, you guessed it, a list of available upgrades to v.8, but no DL link. The wait begins again.....

I've never appreciated being made to jump through hoops to get something that's supposed to be FREE. Been there, done that, and I don't like it!
If it's FREE and worth having, then the acquisition should consist of nothing more than clicking the download link and waiting for the file to finish downloading onto your PC.

Must you live in the UK to take advantage of the offer? version 8 is better than 7. I run 7 and 8 on two of my 2K computers.
I note that the linux mags that come from the UK always have a CD or DVD with useful programs included. I do from time to time buy a magazine (UK not US) if the DVD has a few things on it that I want to try because it beats waiting for a DVD to download and then wasting a blank to burn it. |

Hello,
I think when most businesses give away a product for free, they are doing it for marketing purposes, and expect to get something in return, such as qualified leads for their sales team. That is not unusual for the computer or any industry.

Just a note, I did indeed get an email yesterday verifying that the email address was correct. Now I will wait patiently for the download link.
oops, I just checked and today's mail brought a serial number.
I suspect tomorrow I will receive the download link. |

I have it downloaded. It's version 8.0.0.896
The link is still good because others have registered, gotten a serial number and downloaded this week.
Also, you do not have to live in the UK for the offer to work. |

Just for the sheer hell of it, I've just tried, and got the program and key in about 20 mins. Can't say why your having trouble.
Bear in mind you have to get the key first and then, if you aren't already, register and log in to the site to get to your registered products, which should by now include v8. |

Just tried it today and it's still working. For some reason, I could not get it to download in IE 7 but it did in Firefox.
I've been using Version 7 that someone had posted a while back and even that has been fine for my needs. Has anyone found any key differences in version 8 vs Version 7?
Thanks! |

Anyone having problems finding the download or getting registered please follow the steps below to get the Acronis software.
 Start here:
http://www.acronis.co.uk/mag/pcpro/ati8pe
Follow the directions, register, get the 1st email, Confirm the email by clicking the link in it (or paste into browser then click go), now you will get a 2nd email with your serial number. Next start to login to your account but use the Acronis True Image US site instead of the UK site. If you don't get the first email, check your spam folders.
 The US Site
https://www.acronis.com/my/index.html
On the right side you will see "Login to Your Account" and use the "Forgot your password?" feature and fill in your email address that you just registered with to get the serial. That will get you a "Password retrieval" email that you click or paste into browser to confirm and a web page with your new login password will appear. Save it and then use it to login to your account (unless you already have one prior to this offer).
Once logged in, go to "Registered Products", click on the plus mark (+) to expand the details for your product and there will be a link to download the software on a line titled "Download installation file if you lost your copy of the program. (File size: 20.78 MB)".
Enjoy!
 The User Guide is here:
