I have been trying to get into the BIOS to change the boot order so I can load Windows XP Pro into it.
There is a password on the BIOS and I can't get past it and I have been to ACER and looked at their faq and they said to try to use Acer and it should do it but it did not work.
I have done several searches on this problem and I also took it down enough to look for a CMOS Jumper to clear the password but I did not find one and I have thought about unsoldering board battery to clear it but I am not so sure I want to do that and I thought I would try to ask here and see if anyone has an answer to this or a way to clear the CMOS out so I can change the boot order on this laptop.
This is an ACER ASPIRE 5515 laptop.

Thank you for your help with this.

no offense when it comes to hacking a laptop there is not way to prove ownership other than calling acer support.

there are several methods of removal that require some hardware hack but again I don't know you are the owner. You can call acer and they should help you with this after they verify you own the laptop, or you can take it to a computer store that will take all your information down in case that laptop is reported stolen as well.

ya bogus you might thing but that's that only way to ensure you are the valid owner of the laptop. search google for answers as most users like me wont give you the info in a forum. I surly don't want to be known as the person that told you how to hack someone else's laptop.

best of luck

I purchased this laptop from the State auction and the hard drive was wiped and needs to be reloaded with an O/S and this is the way they sell their surplus.
I purchase this for use when I am out at the library to check emails and do searches.
I respect your concern of ownership and I thank you for your response and if what I am asking is risky to post on this forum please use the P/M and I will get your message privately but I really would like to get into the BIOS or clear the CMOS so I can load Windows on it.

Thank You for your help........ Confused Confused Confused

Most laptops have a message that pops up on the screen when you first boot it up.

It will usually tell you what "F" key to press to bring up the boot menu. On my Acer One Netbook, it's F12, on my desktop computer (several, actually) it's F11.
Give that a try to access the boot menu. A bootable CD, DVD, or flash drive should
be in the computer when you first turn it on.
Give that a try.

If you ever get rid of that #$%@^& Bios password, Never, Never set one again. Eh?

And, if the bios prevents you from even using the F keys, you're back to resetting the bios to factory defaults. Any decent computer repair center should be able to do that for you. Because they will probably require you to show proof of ownership, I hope you got a receipt, when you bought that Laptop. Rolling Eyes
