Post subject: AVG nag screen

Not sure if this post belongs here or elsewhere, but am I the only one to have noticed the new nag screen that pops up soon after updating AVG`s database, promoting their (paid-for, presumably) security suite? Seems a despicable thing to have tacked on to a program that has always been free of such obnoxious things. I have used AVG free for years but I shall be looking at other free or open-source equivalents if this is their new policy.

Hello,

Out of curiosity, have you considered purchasing the program? If you have gotten several years of use of the program at no cost, then perhaps purchasing a copy would be a way to show your appreciation to the authors?

Failing that, I believe Avira, ClamAV and Comodo offer anti-malware programs which are free for personal, non-commercial use.

What I've found annoying is the way the nag-screen keeps popping up at random, with no (apparent) way to stop it. Confused

OK, it would be nice to fork out the $55 (UK £27ish), but when on low-income, that's a big hole in my pocket.

It's sad, but unless AVG switch that nag-screen off soon, I'll be trying out Avast - after all, I've been recommending it along with AVG for long enough, I suppose it's time I actually tried it
