| Anyone aware of a way to change (preferably for free!) the language used within Windows 98?
I've a legit copy on an old PC, and would like to change the language from English to Polish, if at all possible?

| I have on a floppy a file which is the language pack for Windows 98.
It is an exe and I don't know exactly what languages are on it.
I'm going to zip it up, upload it and I will send you the linke to download it.
When you do, scan it for virii, unzip, put it on a floppy and see what it does.
I know I have this because years ago I had to download it to help someone. I rarely throw any files away, unless I find they are not worth saving or have been replaced with better versions.

Many thanks zlim, truly appreciated. I've downloaded the fole already, though not likely to be able to play with it until over the weekend ... I'll get back to you and let you know how I get on.

Hi zlim, reporting back as promised
Thanks again for your efforts, though unfortunately it is not what I was trying to find: it gives partial language compatability (including Polish) within some (Microsoft) packages ... spell-checks in WORD etc.
What I'm trying to find is something that will display Windows 98 (a legit English-language installation) in Polish.
Just wondering out loud here, but if I re-installed, could I choose Polish as an option? Seems to ring a bell somewhere, though maybe that was just an option for the language in which you wished to read the EULA etc? |

I've a sneaky suspicion that you'll need to get hold of the Polish Win98. I seem to remember having a reverse problem, quite a few years ago, with a pal's girl-friend bringing her Austrian laptop+native Win98, then wanting it converting to English.
It took all afternoon and evening to get nowhere, apart from a restaurant and a pub afterwards. |

I had a PC drive me to drink yesterday..... and it was all in English!!!!
Something happened to one of my security programs lately and it came up in German. Go figure!
I deleted it and reinstalled it and VOILA, back to English again.
I've not done a fresh install of 98 in years, but didn't it have one place where you could specify the Language, during the install?
Cheers! |

| Win98 did (does) have foreign language support, but I seem to remember that it's only for dictionaries, help files, licence agreement, currency and numerical layout etc. The main core (menus, tool-tips and so on) was still in English. |
