This forum topic is for "Random Thoughts" among other things so here goes......

Among the frivolous things that people find to complain about is the little drop down NAG SCREEN that drops down from the AVG FREE control panel.

(if I've posted this before in this forum, don't stop me, I'm on a roll ! ) Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

There are two files that are installed on your computer when you install AVG 8.0 FREE. These two files support the nag box that drops down below the AVG Control Panel. (double click the System Tray icon to open this panel)

Getting rid of that annoying panel is as simple as deleting those two files.
Doing this manually is not too difficult for the experienced user, but can be way beyond the ability of the untrained.

I don't like doing anything like that more than once, so I put the two files into a Batch file which I can now run when I install AVG 8.0 FREE for a customer.
That takes all the drudgery out of that little chore.
Here's my batch file:

@Echo off
cls
del "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgmwdef_us.mht"
del "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgresf.dll"

REM With these two files deleted, the AVG nag box will NO Longer appear at
REM the bottom of the AVG Control panel window.

Just copy and paste these (blue) lines into a new Wordpad document and then save it with the name:

NoNagBox.bat

Save the file where you can easily get at it, like your desktop and run it once.
Then reboot and open your AVG control panel, by double clicking the little AVG icon in the system tray. If you did everything correctly, you will see NO Nag Box on the bottom of the Control Panel Window.

If you can't perform this task, then learn to live with the Nag Box. Wink Laughing Laughing Laughing

Cheers Mates!

Hello,

Just to check, since I have not looked at the latest version of AVG, purchasing the registered edition makes the nag screen go away, too, correct?

Of course that's true.
And if you PAY for it, AVG gives you much increased malware coverage, with Spyware and RootKit protection. I've been running the full retail version for quite some time.

But when I install AVG for my customers I'm not installing a PAID version.

And when people are trying out AVG for the first time, they don't want to pay for it either.

On just about every forum on the internet, somewhere, someone, is griping about that nag box.
My own solution to the "problem" was, to just pull the AVG Control panel window down till the nag box was hidden by the task bar. NO Problemo!

There's always a solution to every problem or even perceived problems.
