Post subject: 35mm Color Slides to PC

There is NO problem, so I thought this might fit here:

I have hundreds of color slides that I took with a 35mm camera when I was in Europe in 1962 thru 1964.

I'd like to scan them into my PC, edit them and then save them to DVD's.
Once digitized, I may even be able to share a few of them with friends around the world.

So in my quest for an economical device to do the job, a friend sent me a link to the website of:
www.HammacherSchlemmer.com

And here's what I found. This little scanner sells for ~$100 USD.

So, I'm just curious if anyone else is doing this slide to PC conversion and what kind of hardware are you using?

I got a sales flyer from Epson in this mornings email.

One thing they were selling at reduced price was the following scanner.
It will do multiple color slides and strip films or negatives.
I've always been partial to Epson products, so this seemed like a great addition to my Computer desk, which already has two Epson Printers on it.

For now anyway, my search is over. My new Epson Scanner should be here in about a week.

I'm still curious if anyone else is scanning 35mm color slides and just what hardware is being used.

Just Curious,

I've not tried this, although I should. My parents have got a couple of boxes of slides they took in Spain in the late 50s / early 60s, and we haven't even got a slide projector now.

I'd love to see how yours come out. Are any of them taken in England ?

Nope,,,, didn't make it to England. If I could have ridden my BMW Motor Cycle to England, I would have. As close as I ever got was Amsterdam Holland. Confused

Then I rode down through Belgium, France, through the Swiss Alps and wound up on the Riviera, where I spent four days camped on the beach.
(right next to five girls from Sweden) Embarassed

The problems with the old slide projectors is that they are hard on bulbs and many of those aren't even made anymore.
I still have my projector and a screen, somewhere, but I've not had it set up in probably thirty years.

I used to have a Umax scanner that would scan one slide at a time, but when I upgraded my PC to XP-Pro, I found out there were NO XP drivers for that scanner. So I gave it away!

I'll try to post a pic or two here when I get the scanner and start scanning my pictures from Europe. I wish now, that I would have stopped more often in my trip around Europe and taken more pictures.

On the "Tour de France" the bikers travel on some of the same roads I traveled on my trip, through the Swiss mountains.
I do wish I'd taken more pictures!

Later,
Doc

Haven't been around these parts in ages...

I'm curious to see how these turn out. One of my potential projects if I can sneak it past my mother... is to convert the tons and tons of slides that my grandparents took on their many trips in the 1950s/60s/70s. I remember holding those things up to the light to see what they were lol. Goodness knows though... Most of them I won't know what they are anymore as both of my grandparents have passed away ~7-10 years ago now.

I also have a bunch of negatives of my own... including those 'wheels' from the old Kodak camera..I've forgotten the name of it. Not sure what to do with the negatives that came BACK in the same lil container! (don't even know if I still have that camera).

As you can see I'm more or less an amateur camera user lol. Though I DO use digital now... a clunky HP one bought in 2001.. .really must update... used my father's newer camera when I went to England this past February.

I got the "Perfection V200" scanner from Epson and it's a real Jewel.

It allows me to scan four color slides at a time and it will also do 35mm negatives. The software can reverse the negative to make a positive picture.

This picture was taken 44 years ago, on a little road in Eastern France.
The black spot on the guard rail, just behind my duffel bag, is a 50cal machine gun bullet hole, fired from an aircraft, probably strafing the road in WWII.
The bike is my 1951 BMW 500 with all my camping gear loaded on the back.

I still have that black jacket with the red lining, that's laying on top of my duffel bag. I guess that designates me as an official Pack-Rat. Eh?

Yeah, we've missed you around here Fuzzy. Been wondering what happened to you. Wink

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?
